Wisconsin Potato Growers Had a Good Year in 2020



Wisconsin potato production totaled 28.8 million hundredweight last year, up 70,000 cwt. from 2019 production levels. The latest USDA Potato Summary shows that state growers planted 69,000 acres of spuds, down 2,000 acres from the year prior.

Harvested acres in 2020 were reported at 68,500, down 1,500 acres from 2019. But average yield per acre was up from 410 cwt. in the previous year to 420 cwt.

Meanwhile, prices were also up at $12.20 cwt., an increase of 40-cents from the previous year. Total value of production of the Wisconsin potato crop was up from $339 million in 2019 to $351 million in 2020.
