In a concerted effort to gauge the current state of Wisconsin's agricultural landscape, the United States Department of Agriculture's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) is set to embark on two pivotal mid-year surveys: the June Agricultural Survey and the June Area Survey. Over the coming weeks, NASS will reach out to approximately 4,300 producers across the state, aiming to assess crop acreage and stock levels as of June 1, 2023.
Regarded as essential and widely recognized surveys, the June Agricultural Survey and the June Area Survey play a crucial role in shaping the understanding of expected acreage and supply of major commodities within the United States for the 2023 crop year. The data collected from these surveys not only aids farmers, ranchers, and policymakers but also informs decisions made by USDA, exporters, researchers, economists, and other key stakeholders.
Producers can conveniently contribute to the surveys through multiple channels, including online at agcounts.usda.gov, via phone, or by mail. They will be asked to provide vital information regarding planted and harvested acreage, encompassing details on biotech crops and grain stocks. Furthermore, agency representatives will engage with farm and ranch operators across randomly selected segments of land, conducting interviews over the phone or in person for the June Area Survey. These interviews will delve into additional aspects such as crop acreage, grain stocks, livestock inventory, land values, and value of sales.
NASS ensures the confidentiality of all respondents, upholding strict privacy measures that preserve individual information and only publish data in aggregated form to protect the identity of operations or producers. The collected data will be disseminated through various USDA reports, including the annual Acreage and quarterly Grain Stocks reports on June 30, 2023. Furthermore, this information contributes to NASS's extensive range of reports, such as the monthly and annual Crop Production reports, Small Grains Summary, Farms and Land in Farms and Land Values reports, as well as livestock reports covering Cattle, Sheep and Goats, and Hogs and Pigs.
