Zimmerman Selected as National FFA Officer Candidate

Wisconsin has chosen its candidate to run for a national FFA officer position later this fall. Cortney Zimmerman from the Spencer FFA has been selected to run for the title, in which she will compete for one of six spots in the country to help run the National FFA Organization and lead junior high and high school members for a year.

A 2020 graduate of Spencer High School, Zimmerman served as one of the State FFA Vice Presidents during the past year. She told Wisconsin Ag Connection that she and her fellow officers learned a lot of lessons about leadership and adversity during the pandemic.

"It was definitely a different kind of year, but our teammates worked together and strived to be creative. That, in itself, has inspired me to continue with my FFA career," Cortney said. "I feel that experience has prepared me to go further and I am up for those types of challenges at the next level."

Zimmerman is currently attending South Dakota State University, majoring in agricultural communications. She will also be spending a lot of time working with former state and national FFA officers, who will serve as her coaches as she prepares for the selection process at the convention.

Each state is allowed to send one national officer candidate to the convention. The National FFA Convention takes place in Indianapolis in late October.
