Equity Livestock Offering BQA Certification
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 11/07/2018

The Baraboo-based Equity Cooperative Livestock Sales Association is offering beef producers an opportunity to become Beef Quality Assurance certified. Coordinators say the livestock industry is going through many new changes and that two of the co-op's largest buyers will only purchase cattle that are BQA certified, starting January 1, 2019.

BQA follows specific guidelines, such as demonstrating commitment to food and safety and quality; safeguarding the public image of the dairy industry; Upholding consumer confidence in valuable beef products; Protecting the beef industry from additional and burdensome government regulation; Improving safe value of marketed beef cattle; and enhancing herd profitability through better management.

BQA certification can be achieved by logging in on the BQA website www.bqa.org. Producers will need to register and sign-up and complete one of the free courses that best fit their particular operations.

Equity has also set up BQA training sessions at several of its markets for those who prefer classroom instruction. Those trainings will take effect throughout the fall at the Sparta, Monroe, Johnson Creek, Bonduel, Eau Claire, Stratford, Lomira and Richland Center locations. The cost is $15.00 per person.

For more information about BQA certification, call the Wisconsin Beef Council at 800-728-2333 or your local Equity market.
