Assembly Honors Brancel for Years of Public Service
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 11/13/2017

Wisconsin's immediate-past agriculture secretary was recognized by his former colleagues last week for his many years of public service. On November 7, the Assembly and Senate passed a joint resolution honoring Ben Brancel for his time in the Assembly, as well as for his leadership at the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, the USDA's Farm Service Agency and University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Rep. Joan Ballweg presented a plaque to Brancel and his wife, Gail, on the floor of the Assembly.

"Through Secretary Brancel's hard work and dedication to the state of Wisconsin, he has earned the trust and respect of people from all over the state," said Ballweg. "I am honored to have the opportunity to recognize his accomplishments."

Brancel retired from his work of public service in August to raise beef cattle on his family's 290-acre farm.

He has held many positions during his time in Madison, include Speaker of the Assembly, state director of the Wisconsin FSA, state relations liaison for UW-Madison's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, and agriculture secretary under two different governors.

Brancel has also earned many prestigious awards, with the most recent being the 2017 World Dairy Expo's Industry Person of the Year.
