Lawsuit Against Central Sands, Wysocki Farms Growing
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 01/09/2020
More neighboring residents are signing on as plaintiffs in a lawsuit filed against a pair of large farms in central Wisconsin over the impact they are having on local groundwater. According to WSAW-TV, the suit blames the Central Sands Dairy, Wysocki Produce
Farm and their insurance company of 'knowingly causing high nitrate levels' in Wood and Juneau Counties.
So far, 300 people have signed legal documents against the farms--which began as a civil complaint in November 2018.
The case is not considered a class action lawsuit because each of the the homeowners' situations are different. Some are requesting reimbursement for water treatment costs, while others are suing over health issues related to the contamination.
This isn't the first time the farms have been challenged in court. The Wysockis were also involved in legal challenges by their neighbors when they first filed for permits on their dairy farm operations.
