4-H Clubs Invited to Help Create, Name New Ice Cream Flavor

Local 4-H clubs from across Wisconsin will once again have the opportunity to be part of the creation of a new ice cream product being developed by Cedar Crest Ice Cream of Cedarburg.

The Wisconsin 4-H Foundation is partnering up with the dairy company for the tenth year in a row to give 4-H clubs a chance to compete for a $500 cash prize and an ice cream party for its members by winning the contest.

Timely submitted entries will be judged by a panel of judges chosen by Cedar Crest's staff. The company currently manufacturers over 80 flavors of ice cream at its Manitowoc plant, and distributes product in five states.

Organizers say the contest provides a unique opportunity for 4-H members throughout the state to become engaged, giving youth who participate a taste of what it takes to become an inventor entrepreneur, as they develop a new ice cream product and name it.

"The most exciting part of the contest is the winning flavor will be available through Cedar Crest beginning next July," said 4-H Foundation Director Brenda Scheider.

Official ice-cream contest entry forms are found on Cedar Crest Ice Cream's website at www.cedarcresticecream.com. The product is expected to be unveiled next summer.

The deadline to enter names is November 12.
