The Sun Prairie-based Compeer Financial is accepting applications for its high school senior scholarship program. The group's Fund for Rural America program is offering 123 scholarships, each worth $1,500, to students who plan on attending a college, university or technical school to major in agriculture or an agriculture-related field.
"Through the Fund for Rural America, our goal is to contribute to the future of agriculture across our territory," said Karen Schieler, a senior corporate giving specialist. "More and more students in metropolitan areas are exploring careers in agriculture and we hope by adding these new scholarships it will further inspire these students. Our high school scholarship program is a signature investment in the future."
To qualify, graduating seniors must live in Compeer Financial's 144-county territory and have a 3.0 or higher GPA. Scholarship recipients are selected based on a combination of academic achievement, agricultural and community youth organization involvement and essays.
To date, the cooperative has awarded over $500,000 to 345 graduating seniors
To apply, students should visit Compeer.com to download the application form or complete the electronic application. Applications must be received by March 15.
