Corn Silage Whole-Plant Moisture Testing Planned in Kewaunee Co.

The University of Wisconsin-Extension office in Kewaunee County will offer an opportunity to have standing corn intended for corn silage tested for whole plant moisture. The testing will take place on September 1 in Sturgeon Bay and September 7 in Luxemburg.

The purpose of the testing is to check the whole plant moisture level of the corn and determine the optimal harvest date. To participate in the testing, please bring 4-5 stalks of corn with you, bundled and tagged.

The sample should be a representative sample of your entire field. They will be delivered to the lab for testing, but samples delivered the day before will not be tested.

There is a limit of two free samples per farm and $12 for additional samples. Nitrate testing is also available for $9.

For more information, call 920-388-7138 or aerica.bjurstrom@wisc.edu.
