Wisconsin FFA members who are interested in participating in the organization's District Leadership Development Events this spring can now start planning for the competition. On Thursday, the Wisconsin FFA Board of Directors voted to hold the first round of speaking contests virtually during the months of March and April. Once completed, the group will reconvene and determine if the sectional round of events will be held online or in person.
"The safety and health of Wisconsin FFA members and supporters are a top priority as we pledge to follow all CDC and public health guidelines and recommendations," said State FFA Director Cheryl Zimmerman. "At the same time, we are committed to providing Wisconsin FFA members with a premier Leadership Development Event experience."
Zimmerman says a schedule will be released on February 12 announcing the dates and times of the district events. The top two individuals or teams in each competition at the district level will move on to sectionals, with the top individual at that level moving on to the state convention.
As part of a decision made last year by the National FFA Organization, all students who were seniors in high school during the 2019-20 school year will be eligible to complete in the speaking contests this year.
Meanwhile, another committee is in the process of organizing the Career Development Judging Contests in Wisconsin, which will also be held in a virtual format in the coming months.
