Efficient Nitrogen Use - On-Farm Research for Farmers

Efficient Nitrogen Use - On-Farm Research for Farmers

By Blake Jackson

The "Navigating Nitrogen: Efficient Use and On-Farm Research Opportunities" event will be held on March 13, 2025, from 9:30 AM to Noon at the Lafayette County Multi-Purpose Building in Darlington, WI.

This informative session is designed to help local farmers improve nitrogen management practices and boost the sustainability of their operations.

The event will begin with a welcome, refreshments, and introductions, followed by an update on the SWIGG study's impact on local agricultural practices.

The first session, led by Jordyn Sattler and Landon Baumgartner, will cover the results from the 2024 Nitrogen Use Efficiency (NUE) plots and provide insight into Wisconsin’s performance benchmarks. Farmers will also learn how to assess their own NUE at home.

The next session, led by Lindsey Rushford, will focus on navigating the agronomic and economic optimal nitrogen rates, offering valuable information for crop budgeting in 2025.

After a short break, a farmer panel discussion will provide an opportunity for producers to share their experiences with nitrogen use efficiency and rate trials on their own farms.

The event will conclude with a presentation on cost-share opportunities available to local producers for nitrogen-related practices, followed by a Q&A session with NRCS and County LCD staff. Registration details will be available later this month.
