The Wisconsin Soybean Association has announced details of its 13th annual Soybean Yield Contest. The program aims to encourage the development of new and innovative management practices and to show the importance of using sound cultural practices in Wisconsin soybean production.
University of Wisconsin-Extension Soybean Specialist Dr. Shawn Conley says the deadline for growers to complete their entry forms will be December 11 or two weeks post field harvest, whichever comes first. This year, all entry fees are being waived.
Two winners from each of the four geographical divisions in the state will receive awards. The contest's top entries in each division will earn a $1,000 cash prize at next year's Wisconsin Corn/Soy Expo, with second-place receiving $500. Winners will be selected for having the highest soybean yield based on bushels per acre at 13-percent moisture.
Also new this year, a new category is being offered that will award a statewide grower with the highest yield as a first-time participant.
The competition is sponsored by the Wisconsin Soybean Association, Wisconsin Soybean Marketing Board, University of Wisconsin-Extension and UW College of Agricultural and Life Sciences.
