Several members and a pair of federal lawmakers were recognized for their leadership and dedication to rural Wisconsin last weekend during the 90th annual Wisconsin Farmers Union State Convention.
This year's Friend of the Family Farmer Award recipient was Michelle Miller of Madison, who work at the University of Wisconsin Center for Integrated Agricultural Systems. The award recognizes individuals who have gone above and beyond in efforts on behalf of family farmers and rural communities.
Builders Awards, given for outstanding commitment to building Farmers Union through county involvement, leadership development and member recruitment, went to Rachel Henderson, Menomonie; Sarah Lloyd, Wisconsin Dells; and the late Dave Fauska, Elroy.
Congressmen Mike Gallagher and U.S. Representative Ron Kind were presented with Friends of the Family Farmer Awards, in recognition of their bipartisan introduction of the Dairy Pricing and Policy Act of 2020.
And the all new Emerging Leader Award was given to Aaron Ellringer, for igniting energy and engagement in WFU. Ellringer has played a crucial role in recruiting members, planning events, and energizing the Eau Claire County Farmers Union.
