Only Two Contested Seats for DFW/WMMB Board

The make up of the group formerly known as the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board will not look much different after this year's district director elections are complete. This year, seven of the eight incumbents in eligible districts have been renominated for their positions, with only two of those board members being challenged for their seats. Farmers in one other district will only have a single newcomer to choose from as the area's nominee.

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture says District 5 Incumbent Kay Zwald from Hammond will face Randall Koller of Mondovi in a mail-in ballot election. And Incumbent Jay Stauffacher, Darlington, is being challenged by Kyle Levetzow, Dodgeville, in District 23.

The only other change will occur in District 11, where Daniel Hinz of Pickett was the only producer nominated to replace retiring director Mike Verhasselt from Kaukauna.

Other district incumbents who are not facing challengers this year include Connie Seefeldt, Coleman (District 2); Steve Sternweis, Marshfield (District 8); Patricia Kling, Taylor (District 14); Julie Maurer, Newton (District 17); and Sharon Laubscher, Wonewoc (District 20);

Election coordinators say all eligible voters must return their ballots to DATCP by May 22. Dairy producers who do not receive a ballot by May 10 should call 608-224-5116.

Producers who are elected will serve three-year terms beginning July 1.
