The I-29 Moo University 2021 Dairy Webinar Series continues on August 20 from 12 noon to 1 p.m. This month's topic is pricing corn silage.
Presenter Ryan Sterry will help corn growers and dairy/livestock producers discover how to negotiate a fair price when buying or selling corn silage.
"Extension educators in Wisconsin have developed a spreadsheet, smart phone app, and paper form to value corn silage," said Fred Hall, dairy specialist with ISU Extension and Outreach. "The app includes links to current corn and hay market prices and allows buyers and sellers to enter their own yield estimates and harvest costs. The difference in value of soil nutrients removed when harvesting silage versus corn for grain is also calculated in both the app and spreadsheet helping sellers fine-tune their standing value per acre."
Sterry joined University of Wisconsin-Extension in 2006, first serving as Agriculture Agent for Polk County, and currently serving in St. Croix County. His educational programming has focused on dairy, livestock and farm management, with a current emphasis on Dairy and Livestock Management Education.
