For the week ending September 14, 2025, Wisconsin farmers reported 6.2 days suitable for fieldwork, according to USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Crops continued to mature rapidly as producers prepared for the upcoming corn and soybean harvests.
Topsoil moisture was rated 3% very short, 19% short, 76% adequate, and 2% surplus. Subsoil moisture conditions stood at 3% very short, 17% short, 76% adequate, and 4% surplus.
Corn progress advanced steadily, with 95% reaching the dough stage or beyond. Fields were 72% dented, running one day ahead of last year but two days behind the five-year average.
Seventeen percent of corn was reported mature, while 22% of silage had been harvested. Overall, corn condition was rated 81% good to excellent, a slight decline of one point from the previous week.
Soybeans were also moving along, with 58% of fields showing color, four days behind last year and three days behind average. Nineteen percent were dropping leaves. Soybean condition held steady at 81% good to excellent.
Potato harvest reached 55%, with crop condition at 87% good to excellent. Winter wheat planting was 16% complete, three days behind last year and six days behind the average. Emergence was at 4%.
The fourth cutting of alfalfa hay was 77% finished, ahead of both last year and the average. Hay condition was rated 80% good to excellent. Pasture and range conditions were 68% good to excellent, down slightly from the prior week.
