Corn production is forecast at 512 million bushels, down 6 percent from the previous year. Soybean production is forecast at 91.1 million bushels, down 22 percent from the previous year.

The report also forecasts that production of alfalfa and alfalfa mixtures for hay will be down 6 percent from the previous year, while production of other hay will be up 33 percent.

The forecasts in this report are based on October 1 conditions and do not reflect weather effects since that time. The next corn and soybean production forecasts, based on conditions as of November 1, will be released on November 9.
