Wisconsin State Fair to Open Its Gates Today

For the first time in two years, the crowds will be entering the gates to the 2021 Wisconsin State Fair today at the state fairgrounds near Milwaukee. Governor Tony Evers, Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, and other dignitaries will be on hand for a small ribbon cutting ceremony. That will be followed by performances by Renata The Band and the Kids From Wisconsin at the amphitheater.

Organizers say the 170th annual event promises to be a treat for the entire family. This year's attractions include the Livestock Auction, the Blue Ribbon Dairy Products Auction, induction of farms into the Century Farm and Sesquicentennial Farm program, and learn more about agriculture at the Dairy Lane exhibit area.

Grandstand performances this year include names like Skillet, Colton Dixon, Chris Young, Sara Evans, Billy Idol, Casting Crowns, Foreigner, Boyz II Men, The Beach Boys, and Hank Williams, Jr.

There will also be a record number of food items available, including 75 new food and beverage options ranging from Lobster Rangoon to the Yak-Mac Attack Burger. As always, fairgoers will have the chance to taste old favorites like the cream puffs and chocolate covered bacon.

Meanwhile, Thursday is Hunger Task Force Day at the fair, which means any attendee who brings at least two non-perishable foot items or a cash donation will get into the grounds for only $2.00.

In the coliseum, the world's largest junior dairy show will begin today with the Holstein show, followed by the Clydesdale Draft Horses-Hitch Classes later in the evening.

The fair runs through August 15, where nearly a million people are expected to pass through the gates during the 11-day run.
