Women in agriculture event returns March 7 in Wisconsin

By Blake Jackson

The Extension Women in Agriculture Program is set to return on March 7th at the Farm Wisconsin Discovery Center, located at 7001 Gass Lake Road, south of Manitowoc from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm (registration starts at 9:00 am).

The event, themed "VITAL - Valuably Informed Thriving Agriculture Leader," highlights the essential role women play in farming and agribusiness.

This program is designed to empower women in agriculture by providing educational opportunities, connecting them with valuable resources, and fostering supportive networks.

Here's a glimpse of what you can expect:

  • Learn from the experts: Eastern Wisconsin Agricultural Educators will cover relevant farm production topics like preparing calves for transport and navigating automation decisions for your dairy.
  • Plan for the future: Gain insights from Emily Selner, Axley Brynelson on estate planning and transitioning your dairy business to the next generation.
  • Master social media: A panel discussion with Adam Baumann, Sue Dettmann, Daphne Holterman, and Millaine Wells will equip you with tips and strategies for promoting your farm story online.
  • Animal health focus: Dr. Donald Sockett, DVM will share new concepts in colostrum feeding for dairy calves.
  • Choose your breakout session: Tailor you're learning to your needs. Carolina Pinzon will delve into employee retention strategies, while Cath Tease from Extension will address mental health and coping mechanisms for stressful times.

This "day away from the farm" is a perfect opportunity to connect with other women who share your experiences and challenges.

Registration is $30 per person before February 25th and increases to $35 afterwards. The fee covers a delicious farm-to-table meal, refreshments, and program materials.

Register by contacting Extension Manitowoc County at 920-683-4183 or online at https://go.wisc.edu/vital2025. Feel free to bring your employees, friends, and family for a day of learning and connection.

For further information, contact Extension Dairy Educator Angie Ulness (920-683-4511; angie.ulness@wisc.edu) or Regional Dairy Educator Aerica Bjurstrom (920-388-7138; aerica.bjurstrom@wisc.edu).
