Wisconsin Ag Outlook Forum Slated for January 29
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 12/05/2018

Agricultural economists and commodity specialists from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and UW-Extension will talk about the financial health of Wisconsin agriculture and the outlook for the year to come at the 12th annual Wisconsin Agricultural Economic Outlook forum in Madison this winter. The event will be held January 29, which coincides with the release of the 2019 edition of the 'Status of Wisconsin Agriculture' report by the UW-Madison Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics.

The program takes place in Varsity Hall III at Union South at the UW-Madison campus from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The forum will cover an overview of Wisconsin's farm economy, including the current situation and price outlooks for dairy, corn and soybeans, as well as farm income and input costs.

After lunch, attendees will hear a keynote presentation by economist Marin Bozic on industry trends that will provide context about what's happening in Wisconsin and across the nation. Pete Kappelman, co-owner of Meadow Brook Dairy Farms and 2018 World Dairy Expo Dairyman of the Year, will also provide a farmer's perspective on what he and others have been experiencing and what he sees happening in the future. That will be followed by an afternoon session on the trend of consolidation in Wisconsin from their various positions in the dairy supply chain.

Lastly, Mark Stephenson, director of the UW-Madison Center for Dairy Profitability, will wrap up the afternoon by providing an update on the Wisconsin Dairy Task Force 2.0. That's the group assembled last summer to study and make recommendations on actions needed to maintain a viable and profitable dairy industry in the state. Stephenson is chair of the task force.

The meeting is open to the public and costs $20.00 to attend, which includes lunch. To register for the Wisconsin Agricultural Economic Outlook forum, call 608-262-9485.
