Weston seeks funds for water system

Weston seeks funds for water system

By Blake Jackson

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) announced that the Village of Weston has applied for funding through the Safe Drinking Water Loan Program (SDWLP) to improve its public drinking water system. The proposed project involves upgrading two of the village's wells.

The DNR is required to conduct an environmental review before finalizing funding approval under the SDWLP federal regulations (40 C.F.R. §35.3580). While the DNR has initially determined the project to be unlikely to cause significant environmental impacts, they encourage public participation in the review process.

Community members are invited to submit written comments about the project's potential environmental effects by April 24, 2024. Submissions should be addressed to:

  • Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources
  • Attn: Brian Boelkow, Community Financial Assistance (CF/2)
  • 101 S. Webster St.
  • P.O. Box 7921
  • Madison, WI 53707

Comments received will be considered in determining the necessity for a more detailed environmental analysis before finalizing the funding decision. This analysis would outline the DNR's assessment of the project's environmental impact and potential alternatives.

The DNR is committed to ensuring the safety and quality of Wisconsin's drinking water while promoting responsible environmental stewardship. Public participation is a valuable component of this process.
