PDPW Kicks-Off 25 Years with Commemorative Painting
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 03/16/2017

One of the state's largest farm organizations celebrated its silver anniversary by unveiling a special painting that captures the stewardship, partnership and perseverance of Wisconsin's dairy industry. On Wednesday, the Professional Dairy Producers of Wisconsin showed off the art piece called 'Faithfully Feeding the Future,' which local artist Larry Schultz was commissioned to create.

"We wanted a painting that would speak to how we take care of our animals and the land, not just because we have to but because we want to," said PDPW Communications Specialist Shelly O'Leary.

Schultz, who's well known for his artwork of dairy cattle and rural scenery, was chosen to paint the commemorative print because of his sensitivity to the project and to the rural landscape. The finished masterpiece was auctioned off for $5,000 to a group of PDPW leaders, who donated it back to the organization so it could be hung in its main office.

Meanwhile, Ag Economist Dr. David Kohl, who was also part of the group's very first meeting held back in 1993, offered some notes of reflection at the conference.

"You could say that the 'P' in PDPW stands for people," Kohl said. "The folks up on this stage tonight are not there to receive a plaque or special recognition. They are here because they are dedicated to this industry and believe in making it better for the generations of the future."

Also on Wednesday, the group unveiled its all new Dairy AdvanCE project, which is an online professional development database that helps producers keep track of their continuing education credits.

The site, which is found at: dairyadvance.org, includes high-quality dairy education and training programs, workshops and accredited CE opportunities on a wide range of topics. The project was built by USAgNet/Wisconsin Ag Connection and already has nearly 100 new sign-ups in just its first day.

PDPW's annual business conference wraps up on Thursday with its board of directors election and a motivational address by Dr. Lowell Catlett, the former Regent's Professor at New Mexico State University.
