Top Meat Products to be Auctioned Off at State Fair

With a 'Best of Show' yet to be named, nine individuals have already earned championship honors in the 2018 Wisconsin State Fair Meat Products Contest. More than 140 entries competed for these top honors earlier this month. The contest, held in association with the Wisconsin Association of Meat Processors, recognizes quality meat processing while promoting superior Wisconsin food products.

Championship ribbons were presented to Haen Meat Packaging, Kaukauna, Grand Champion Flavored Bacon and Grand Champion Bone-In Ham; Karl's Country Market, Menomonee Falls; Grand Champion Flavored Summer Sausage Sailer's Food Market & Meat Processing, Elmwood, Grand Champion Dried or Smoked Beef and Grand Champion Cured Specialty Meat Product; Wilson Farm Meats, Elkhorn, Grand Champion Flavored Snack Sausages; Ray's Market, Colby, Grand Champion Cooked Bratwurst; Lake Geneva Country Meats, Lake Geneva, Grand Champion Whole Muscle Jerky; and Sixth Street Market, Ashland, Grand Champion Emulsified Ring Bologna.

The contest's top 20 items will be auctioned to the highest bidder at the Governor's Blue Ribbon Meat Products Auction. The special event is hosted by the Wisconsin 4-H Foundation and proceeds benefit Wisconsin 4-H youth. Buyer registration and dinner begins at 5:30 p.m. with the auction bidding beginning at 7:00 p.m.
