Apply Now - Dairy Innovation Hub Research Proposals 2025

By Blake Jackson

The College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS) at UW–Madison invites proposals for trainee research projects aimed at advancing the goals of the Dairy Innovation Hub (DIH).

These projects will draw on UW–Madison's expertise to create impactful and timely outcomes, focusing on recommendations from the Dairy Task Force 2.0.

The Dairy Innovation Hub, established in 2019 with an annual $7.8 million investment from the State of Wisconsin, supports world-class research and talent development.

Its mission is to position Wisconsin as a global leader in producing nutritious dairy products sustainably, encompassing economic, environmental, and social aspects.

Proposals should focus on innovative research within DIH’s priority areas:

  • Stewarding Land and Water Resources
  • Enriching Human Health and Nutrition
  • Ensuring Animal Health and Welfare
  • Growing Farm Businesses and Communities

The goal is to foster innovation and scholarship that ensure Wisconsin’s dairy industry remains resilient and successful.

Projects should also aim to attract top trainee candidates to UW–Madison, enhancing research capabilities and delivering tangible benefits to the state’s dairy sector.

For 2025, proposals must specify the trainee model graduate or postdoctoral fellow for a two-year project. Research proposals should include applied studies with clear deliverables by the project’s conclusion. Faculty with permanent PI status within CALS are eligible to apply.

Including a named research associate strengthens the proposal but is not mandatory. PIs may submit only one primary proposal but can serve as co-PIs on others. Collaborative or overlapping proposals similar to previously funded projects are discouraged.

Proposals are due by 5:00 p.m. CST on Friday, March 7, 2025, and award decisions will be communicated in June 2025.

For detailed submission guidelines, application checklists, and additional resources, visit the Dairy Innovation Hub website under the research funding section.
