Celebrate National Pork Month with tasty, lean choices

By Jamie Martin

October marks National Pork Month, an ideal time to recognize the delicious and nutritious aspects of pork. Pork, known for its versatility, offers a variety of cuts suited for any cooking method, whether it's grilling outdoors or using an indoor air fryer. Not only is pork a flavorful addition to meals, but it's also a lean protein source that enhances any dish.

Pork is one of the most popular meats worldwide, boasting over 110 distinct flavor nuances. It is a "carrier food," meaning it easily adopts the flavors of various cuisines, complementing dishes with nutritious vegetables, whole grains, and rich sauces.

Certain cuts like pork tenderloin and pork sirloin roast are especially health-conscious choices, meeting the American Heart Association’s criteria for healthy foods.

The celebration of pork goes beyond the table. It extends to the farmers who are committed to ethical practices and technological advancements that increase food safety, improve quality, and minimize environmental impacts.

For over 30 years, America’s pig farmers have adhered to the We Care® Ethical Principles, ensuring their methods benefit not just the pigs, but also the environment and communities around them.

Enjoying pork is more than just satisfying hunger—it’s about appreciating the care that goes into its production and the joy it brings to meals across the country. This month, as you savor the various cuts and flavors, take a moment to appreciate the effort of farmers who make it all possible.
