The notion of World Dairy Expo possibly moving away from the Alliant Energy Center has prompted Dane County to offer the show's organizers a 10-year extension on its contract, along with compensation for economic losses resulting from the cancellation of last year's event due to the coronavirus pandemic. County Executive Joe Parisi made the announcement on Wednesday, saying local officials want to ensure the world-renowned agricultural trade show stays in the Madison area.
"World Dairy Expo is a long-standing partner of Dane County and this contract extension reflects our commitment to our farmers, our agricultural heritage, and this event," Parisi said in a statement. "Our partnership has withstood decades and a global pandemic won't change Wisconsin's love for this event and what it means for our economy."
As part of the ten year deal offered by Dane County, World Dairy Expo would remain at the Alliant Energy Center through 2030. In addition, the next two shows would be hosted at no cost. The dairy show's board of directors must approve the proposal before it takes affect.
Last week, WDE announced it was in the process of looking for alternative venues as part of a back-up plan should Dane County's health restrictions prevent them from holding the show for a second straight year.
The 54th World Dairy Expo is currently scheduled for September 28 through October 2 at the Alliant Energy Center.
