Join Wisconsin Ag Day Celebration at Mid-State College

By Blake Jackson

Mid-State Technical College will host the 2025 Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) Ag Day Celebration on March 11th, featuring a free dairy breakfast and an informative Farm Tour.

This event aims to connect farmers, educators, and community members, celebrating agriculture's vital role.

The day begins with a complimentary dairy breakfast at the American Legion in Marshfield, starting at 7:30 a.m., with remarks at 8:00 a.m.

Attendees will hear from WTCS President Layla Merrifield, Mid-State Technical College President Shelly Mondeik, and Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) Secretary Randy Romanski. An RSVP is required for breakfast.

Following the breakfast, Mid-State's annual Farm Tour will showcase innovative agricultural technologies and practices. The tour, open to all, offers networking opportunities for students, professionals, and anyone interested in agriculture.

The tour includes visits to two prominent dairy farms: Romadka View Holsteins in Granton and Heeg Brothers Dairy, LLC in Colby. Romadka View Holsteins, a fifth-generation farm owned by Mark and Kelli Elmhorst, emphasizes cow comfort and modern technology while maintaining traditional values.

Heeg Brothers Dairy, LLC, an equal partnership between Mark, Gary, and Jay Heeg, has expanded significantly since its establishment in 1999, now milking over 1,500 cows.

Lunch and networking will take place back at the American Legion in Marshfield, featuring Alice in Dairyland, Halei Heinzel, as a special guest speaker. Heinzel, Wisconsin's 77th agriculture ambassador, will discuss the importance and economic impact of Wisconsin's diverse agriculture industry.

The breakfast is free, but the Farm Tour costs $10 per person, or $7 per person for groups of five or more. Lunch and networking alone are $15. Specific tour times may vary by pick-up location, with activities beginning at 9:00 a.m.

Registration is mandatory and must be completed by Tuesday, March 4th, to ensure accurate food and bus arrangements.
