Organizers of the Wisconsin State Fair in Milwaukee announced several new changes that will take effect at this year's event in August. Due to a number of factors, including increased sanitization protocols and a lack of staff and volunteers, the fair will run at reduced hours--opening at 11:00 a.m. daily and closing each night at 11:00 p.m.
The state fair office says parking will open at 10:30 a.m. daily, and agricultural and competitive exhibit competitions and shows that were scheduled prior to 11:00 a.m. will continue to take place. All food vendors, shopping, buildings and SpinCity will also open at 11 a.m.
"To make entry more efficient and continue to prioritize safety, parking and admissions will be a cashless experience for fairgoers," the State Fair Park office said in a press release. "We strongly encourage fairgoers to purchase their general admission tickets prior to arriving at the fair to reduce lines for purchasing tickets and create a more seamless entrance process for everyone."
WSFP CEO Kathleen O'Leary added that masks will not be required to enter the fairgrounds, but all individuals are encouraged to follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance.
Vendors will also be prohibited from selling new refillable souvenir cups or refilling past year's cups, and not hosting the various eating contests.
The Wisconsin State Fair will take place August 5-15 in West Allis.
