Winter wheat production in Wisconsin is expected to total 15.4 million bushels this growing season, a large 79 percent hike over last year's harvest of 8.63 million bushels.
According to the latest USDA Crop Production report, winter wheat yields are forecast at 70.0 bushels per acre, up one bushel above 2020. Wisconsin growers intend to harvest 220,000 acres for grain, which is also up 76 percent from the previous season.
Nationally, winter wheat production is forecast at 1.28 billion bushels--up ten percent for the year. As of May 1, the U.S. yield is projected to be around 52.1 bushels per acre, 1.2 bushels above last year's average yield of 50.9 bushels per acre. Area expected to be harvested for grain is forecast at 24.6 million acres, which is seven percent more than 2020.
