Farmers across the country face critical decisions each year about how to maximize yields, profitability, and sustainability while making the most of their available resources.
These choices - from selecting crop rotations and cover crops to managing manure and crop residues play a vital role in maintaining farm efficiency and advancing environmental stewardship.
To explore these issues, the University of Wisconsin-Madison will host a virtual panel discussion via Zoom on Tuesday, November 11 at 4:30 p.m. CT, focusing on emerging opportunities in farm efficiency, sustainability, and the circular bioeconomy. Registration is required to receive the Zoom link.
The discussion will be moderated by Sarah Lloyd, a food systems scientist at UW-Madison. Lloyd farms with her husband, Nels Nelson, near Wisconsin Dells and serves as a value chain coordinator for the University of Minnesota’s Forever Green Initiative and the Grassland 2.0 Project.
Lloyd also works with the Wisconsin Food Hub Cooperative and serves as president of both the Columbia County Farmers Union and the Wormfarm Institute.
Joining her on the panel are Tara Greiman, Joe Bragger, and Matt Winsand. Greiman, Director of Conservation and Stewardship at the Wisconsin Farmers Union, works to connect conservation projects that promote soil health, water protection, renewable energy, and sustainable rural development.
Joe Bragger, president of the Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation, operates Bragger Family Dairy with his family, managing 300 dairy cows, 32,000 pullets, and 1,400 acres of crops. Recognized for his leadership in conservation and environmental stewardship, Bragger has received multiple awards, including the Wisconsin Leopold Conservation Award.
Matt Winsand, CEO of Burnett Dairy Cooperative, brings extensive experience in agriculture and finance. Winsand career spans roles in the grain industry, agricultural finance, and executive leadership, including his current position leading a farmer-owned cooperative known for its award-winning dairy products.
The University of Wisconsin-Madison is committed to providing equal opportunity for participation in all programs. Participants requiring accommodations are encouraged to contact outreach@energy.wisc.edu or call 608-890-0946.
