The winter wheat crop in Wisconsin is forecast at 15.6 million bushels, a whopping 81 percent above last year's total crop.
Based on conditions as of June 1, the USDA says the state's winter wheat yield is projected at 71.0 bushels per acre, up 1.0 bushel from the May 1 forecast and 2.0 bushels per acre more than last year. Wisconsin growers intend to harvest 220,000 acres for grain, up 76 percent from the season before.
Nationally, winter wheat production is forecast at 1.31 billion bushels, up two percent from last month's projections and 12 percent higher than the 2020 crop. The U.S. yield is forecast at 53.2 bushels per acre, up 2.3 bushels from last year's average yield of 50.9 bushels per acre.
