Winter wheat production in Wisconsin was estimated at 18.7 million bushels, up two percent from the 2021 actual harvest, according to the USDA's Small Grains Summary. Planted area, at 305,000 acres, was up five percent from last year. Winter wheat area harvested for grain was 240,000 acres, also two percent lower for the year. Winter wheat yield, at 78.0 bushels per acre, was up 3.0 bushels per acre from 2021.
Oat production was estimated at 4.81 million bushels. That's up 27 percent from last year. Above 140,000 acres was planted for oats, which is an all-time record low, and down 20 percent from last year. Harvested area for grain was 65,000 acres, up seven percent from the harvested acres in 2021. Yield is projected to be around 74.0 bushels per acre, up 12.0 bushels per acre compared to the past growing season.
Barley production, estimated at a record low 165,000 bushels, was down 56 percent from last year. But the barley yield was 2.0 bushels higher per acre at 55.0 bushels. And rye production was estimated at 1.16 million bushels, up 41 percent from last year.
