The Professional Dairy Producers of Wisconsin says another group of speakers are set to take part in the online Dairy Signal program this week.
On Tuesday, Pittsville Fire Chief Jerry Minor will review safety tips when opening manure pits or storage facilities, including working around methane and other gases. Also hear about the upcoming Agricultural Rescue Training program from where it started to where it is today.
Daniel Smith and Dr. Jamie Patton, both with the University of Wisconsin-Madison Nutrient and Pest Management Program, will be Wednesday's guests. With fall harvest underway, they will recommend cover crops that can be used to scavenge for excess nitrogen, resulting in better water quality.
And on Thursday, Dr. Rick Grant of the William H. Miner Agricultural Research Institute will explain the relationship between particle size and digestibility of fiber. Understanding the potential interactions between physically effective fiber and undigested fiber can help formulate rations to optimize dry matter intake, milk and milk components and rumen dynamics.
All episodes are free and available to the public, accessible from www.pdpw.org. They are streamed live at 12:00 noon or available on demand for later playback.
