By Blake Jackson

Dairy farmers and industry experts can gain valuable insights this week on The Dairy Signal, a webinar series by Professional Dairy Producers (PDP).

Tuesday's episode will delve into the crucial topics of electronic data ownership for farmers using smart devices and the responsible application of artificial intelligence (AI) in farm businesses. The presenter will be Bill Oemichen, JD, a law professor and local government law educator from the University of Wisconsin-Madison Extension.

Wednesday and Thursday's episodes will feature encore presentations from the 2025 PDP Business Conference Preview Stage. Wednesday's session will explore ecological intensification through the Wisconsin Integrated Cropping Systems Trial.

Dr. Gregg Sanford and master's student Gideon Fynaardt from UW-Madison will discuss their six-year project evaluating yield, profitability, and soil health to identify sustainable strategies for dairy-forage and cash grain systems.

Thursday's episode will address the feasibility of automated milking systems in response to rising labor costs and market volatility. Dr. Charles Nicholson from UW-Madison and graduate student Jalyssa Beaudry from UW-River Falls will share findings from their study on the financial and operational impacts of these systems, offering practical guidance through workshops and bulletins.

The Dairy Signal episodes are accredited through Dairy AdvanCE (DACE), allowing participants to earn continuing education units (CEUs) by watching live or recorded sessions.

Dairy AdvanCE is an online platform that simplifies the process of finding, tracking, and managing CEUs for dairy professionals. More information is available at www.DairyAdvance.org.

The Dairy Signal airs live Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 12:00-1:00 PM CT, offering a chance for live Q&A. Recordings of past episodes are accessible at www.pdpw.org.
