A venture capitalist who's family once owned a large farm equipment manufacturing company in Wisconsin is the newest member of the University of Wisconsin Board of Regents. Gov. Tony Evers on Monday appointed John W. Miller to the 18-member panel to fulfill the unexpired term of Regent José Delgado, who passed away in January.
Miller began his career as a congressional staffer before joining his family in 2008 to help operate Miller St. Nazianz Inc.--which made Miller Pro farm equipment, Miller Nitro crop sprayers and Ag-Bag silage baggers. He was eventually named president and CEO of the company until selling the business to New Holland in 2014.
The following year, John founded Arenberg Holdings, which is a venture capital fund that invests in start-up companies.
"John recognizes the role the UW System plays in connecting the dots across our communities, our economy, and the culture and history of our state, as well as our future," Evers said. "I believe he will be an excellent addition to the Board of Regents."
Evers says Miller will finish out Dalgado's term, which expires in May. The governor then plans to reappoint him for a full seven-year term.
The regents board passes policies and rules for the UW-System campuses.
