Governor Tony Evers has proclaimed June as Wisconsin's official 'Dairy Month.' In his official declaration, the governor said the state's dairy industry supplies more than a quarter of the nation's cheese and contributes billion to the state's economy each year.
"They don't call Wisconsin America's Dairyland for nothing," Ever said. "With more than 1.2 million dairy cows across our state and more than 95 percent of our dairy farms being family-owned, it's impossible to go anywhere in Wisconsin and not be reminded how critically important the dairy industry is to our state."
Meanwhile, the Badger State also among the top state nationally for the value of dairy exports.
Farm families around the state are in the midst of holding dairy breakfasts and farm tours during June. Many communities around the state are also holding annual dairy festivals to commemorate the importance of the industry this month.
