Wisconsin Dairy Blood Drive Set for June Dairy Month Event

Wisconsin Dairy Blood Drive Set for June Dairy Month Event

By Blake Jackson

Professional Dairy Producers is encouraging community members and dairy industry supporters to take part in its third annual Community Blood Drive during June Dairy Month.

The event, organized in partnership with the American Red Cross, is scheduled for Monday, June 22, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at PDP headquarters located at 820 N. Main Street in Juneau, Wisconsin.

The organization said the blood drive is intended to support local communities while recognizing the efforts of dairy farmers and industry professionals who work daily to provide food for consumers.

“Each day, Wisconsin’s dairy farmers and industry professionals work to provide a nutritious and affordable food supply for our local communities and beyond,” said Shelly Mayer, dairy farmer from Slinger, Wis., and executive director of PDP. “Hosting a blood drive is a way to recognize their work with our own small act of giving blood to support our communities.”

As part of the June Dairy Month celebration, donors will receive a variety of dairy-themed refreshments, including grilled cheese sandwiches, yogurt, milk, cookies and ice cream. Blood donors will also be given a $15 gift card provided by the American Red Cross.

Organizers encourage participants to schedule an appointment in advance and prepare for donation by drinking plenty of water and eating a healthy meal beforehand.

PDP represents dairy producers and industry professionals from approximately 2,000 dairy farms across 36 states, focusing on education, outreach and producer support programs designed to strengthen the dairy industry.

For more information on the blood drive, call PDP at 800-947-7379 or mail@pdpw.org.
