Wisconsin Hosts Swine Ventilation Training Event

Wisconsin Hosts Swine Ventilation Training Event

By Blake Jackson

The Wisconsin Pork Association, University of Wisconsin Madison Division of Extension, and Wisconsin Department of Agriculture Trade and Consumer Protection will host a swine ventilation workshop on May 27, 2026, in Verona, Wisconsin.

The event will take place at the West Madison Ag Research Station and is open to pork producers and allied industry members.

The program is designed to help producers improve ventilation systems used in swine barns. Good ventilation is important because it helps control temperature, moisture, and air quality. These factors support animal comfort, productivity, and overall herd health throughout the year.

Lunch will begin at 11:30 a.m., followed by the educational program from noon until 2:00 p.m. Registration is required by May 22 to guarantee lunch seating. Organizers noted that space is limited, so early registration is encouraged.

Ventilation experts from Double L Group will lead several sessions. They will discuss ventilation basics, proper airflow rates, system design, common mistakes, troubleshooting methods, and real-life ventilation scenarios. These sessions aim to give producers practical ideas they can use on their own farms.

Jeff Morris will explain how ventilation affects swine health and how strong air management supports farm biosecurity. Healthy air systems can reduce stress on animals and improve overall barn conditions.

Sydney Uselman will present information on the U.S. Swine Health Improvement Plan, also known as US SHIP. The program focuses on herd health standards, disease prevention, and protecting the strength of the Wisconsin swine industry.

The workshop is a joint effort to provide useful education and resources for producers. Organizers said the goal is to help farms remain successful and competitive in a changing agricultural environment.

Attendees will also have an opportunity to speak with experts, ask questions, and connect with other producers and industry professionals.
