Wisconsin Opens Meat Processor Infrastructure Grants for 2026

Wisconsin Opens Meat Processor Infrastructure Grants for 2026

By Blake Jackson

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) is now accepting applications for the Meat Processor Infrastructure Grant, with the deadline set for February 23, 2026. The program is designed to strengthen Wisconsin’s meat processing sector while supporting the long-term sustainability of the state’s livestock industry.

“By creating the Meat Processor Infrastructure Grant program, Governor Evers and the legislature have spurred investment in this important Wisconsin economic driver,” said DATCP Secretary Randy Romanski.

“The grants have strengthened Wisconsin’s meat industry by assisting processors in modernizing their establishments, improving capacity and throughput, and improving employee retention.”

The grant is open to meat processors operating in Wisconsin that are licensed by DATCP or the U.S. Department of Agriculture and are involved in livestock harvest or meat processing. Funded projects must focus on expanding harvest capacity or increasing production, with the objective of achieving at least a 20 percent increase in output.

Grant funds may be used to cover operating costs directly tied to the project. Eligible expenses include engineering and architectural services, construction, food safety consulting, equipment purchases, and installation costs.

DATCP will award grants of up to $50,000 for projects lasting as long as two years. Applicants are required to provide a dollar-for-dollar match equal to the grant amount. The program is competitive, with a total of $700,000 available for the 2026 funding cycle.

Application materials and additional details are available through DATCP’s website. Questions may be directed to datcpdadgrants@wisconsin.gov.
