Farm Technology Days Community Grants Available
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 02/06/2008

The county that recently hosted Wisconsin Farm Technology Days is using some of the proceeds from the show to offer grants to area non-profit and public organizations. The Green County Farm Technology Days Executive Committee says the grants will be made available on an annual basis for up to three years, and will be selected by members of the committee. Preference will be given to applicants based in Green County.

"We are pleased to have already paid out over $93,000 back to area groups and organizations that assisted with the show and after closing our books we still have a significant amount to distribute through these grants that were made possible through the hard work of our volunteers and the generous support of our area businesses," said Mark Mayer, Executive Secretary for the show.

Mayer says the main purpose of these grants is to provide funding for the development of new programs or to enhance existing projects related to creating community and consumer awareness as to the importance and impact of agriculture. This would include the development of agriculture educational and leadership experiences for youth and adults in Green County.

"Grant applications will be accepted for any projects dealing with agriculture, education and leadership development that will benefit youth or adults in Green County," Mayer says. "The grants will need to include some agriculture component with preference given to those applications that combine education and/or leadership development with agriculture."

Applications for the 2008 grants are due by August 1 and the grant recipients will be announced and receive their funds on September 1. The grant application requires a narrative explaining the proposed project consisting of no more than two pages, along with a proposed budget. For more information or to receive a grant application form, call 608-328-9440.

The application guidelines and application form is also available for downloading from the Green County UW-Extension website at: green.uwex.edu.
