New and prospective landowners in Wisconsin are invited to join an engaging, educational event on Saturday, July 19, at the Sauk County Farm in Reedsburg.
Hosted by UW-Madison Extension, this free event offers a unique opportunity to connect with conservation professionals and fellow landowners while exploring real-world land management practices.
Designed for anyone beginning their land stewardship journey, the event will showcase the wide range of resources available to help manage farmland, forests, water, wildlife, prairies, and pollinators.
Participants will enjoy a series of guided walking tours that highlight practical strategies and programs tailored to Wisconsin’s diverse landscapes.
Four themed tours will be offered:
- Prairies, Pollinators, and Grassland Birds: Learn how to restore and manage prairies to support pollinators and wildlife, including prairie strips, habitat benefits, and conservation programs.
- Farmland, Grazing, and Soil Health: Explore connections between agriculture, soil health, and water quality. See a rainfall simulator, grazing operations, and cropland demos that emphasize conservation farming practices.
- Invasive Species and Riparian Areas: This extended tour covers invasive species management along field edges and streambanks, along with stream restoration and agroforestry opportunities.
- Woodland Walk with a Forester: Beginning at 12:30 PM, this optional hike provides insights into forest health, tree value, trail systems, and ways to enhance wildlife habitat.
Participants are encouraged to bring lunch, water, and sturdy footwear for walking. If weather conditions prevent the event on July 19, a backup date is set for July 26.
