Marathon County to Host 2026 Alice in Dairyland Finals

Marathon County to Host 2026 Alice in Dairyland Finals

By Blake Jackson

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) has announced that Marathon County will serve as the host for the 79th Alice in Dairyland Finals, scheduled for May 14-16, 2026.

With its scenic landscapes, farmland along the Wisconsin River, and diverse agricultural economy, the county provides a fitting backdrop for this signature statewide event.

Alice in Dairyland is Wisconsin’s agricultural ambassador and communications professional, selected each May through an intensive public interview process.

Each year, the finals rotate to a different county, giving communities across the state an opportunity to showcase their agricultural heritage.

The planning committee for the 79th Finals is encouraging local residents and businesses to get involved by contributing time or resources. Those interested can contact the committee at alicehost2026@gmail.com.

According to the University of Wisconsin-Madison Extension, Marathon County is home to more than 2,200 farms, with 97% family-owned. The county dedicates over 473,000 acres to agriculture, generating more than 11,000 jobs and $2.8 billion annually.

Marathon County leads the state in ginseng production and ranks second in dairy, while maple syrup and other commodities also play a major role in its farm economy.

Leading up to the 2026 finals, the current Alice in Dairyland, Sarah Hagenow, will visit Marathon County more than ten times to attend local fairs, agribusinesses, and community celebrations.

Hagenow appearances will include events such as Colby Cheese Days, the Athens Fair, and the North Central Wisconsin Antique Steam and Gas Engine Show, all aimed at promoting the county’s agritourism and farm products.

The 79th Alice in Dairyland will be selected on May 16, 2026, in Wausau. The finals include a three-day interview process, complemented by a two-day briefing event weeks earlier.

Activities feature media interviews, press conferences, farm tours, and public events designed to highlight Marathon County’s businesses and agricultural contributions.
