2025 Dairy Spanish Webinar Series for Spanish Speakers

By Blake Jackson

The University of Wisconsin-Madison Division of Extension is hosting the 2025 Dairy Spanish Webinar series, El “Break” Info-Lechero, to provide Spanish-speaking dairy workers and the wider Spanish dairy community with the latest research and practical knowledge.

The free webinars will cover a broad range of topics, including reproduction, data management, animal welfare, nutrition, genetics, environmental practices, and more.

This educational series will be held every Wednesday during September, October, and November from 2:00 to 3:00 pm CST. Smart Farming - Ganadería Inteligente is sponsoring the webinars, helping ensure these sessions reach dairy professionals across Wisconsin and beyond. Participants will have the opportunity to learn from and interact with leading experts in dairy science and management.

The schedule kicks off on September 3 with Noa Román-Muñiz, Head of the Department of Agricultural Biology at Colorado State University, discussing leadership lessons learned over the past two decades in the dairy sector.

Following sessions cover practical and technical topics, including maternity area management and calf care with MSc. Alison Pfau, intensive feeding programs with Dr. Juan Manuel Cantet, and bovine hoof health with specialist Juan Diego Cadavid.

In October, the series explores fiber’s impact on milk production, workforce training in dairies, heat detection via the bovine estrous cycle, forage quality management, and milking system optimization. Presenters include MSc. Manuel Peña, Dr. Zelmar Rodríguez, DVM Daniela González, Dr. Matías Aguerre, and MSc. Carolina Pinzón.

The final session on November 5 features DVM Dr. Laura Solano from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, focusing on dairy cow comfort and facility design.

All webinars will be conducted entirely in Spanish, providing accessible and targeted learning for the Spanish-speaking dairy community. Attendance is free, but registration is required.

Interested participants can sign up through the University of Wisconsin-Madison Extension website: https://dairy.extension.wisc.edu/el-break-info-lechero/.

This initiative offers an invaluable opportunity for dairy professionals to stay informed on cutting-edge research, improve herd management, and apply practical solutions to enhance productivity and animal welfare.
