The 2024 Farm Service Agency (FSA) county committee elections are underway, giving eligible farmers and private landowners a chance to vote on representatives who make decisions about local farm program administration.
Ballots were mailed out last week to qualified voters, who must return them by December 2, 2024, to their local FSA offices.
FSA county committee members play a critical role in the agricultural community, helping to administer programs for disaster recovery, conservation, and price support.
“These features make tires more reliable and versatile for all types of farm operations,” says Bill Durivage, senior agricultural product strategy manager, Firestone Ag.
These committees ensure that local input is considered in decisions impacting federal farm programs and rural employment.
To vote, producers must participate in a USDA program and live in a Local Administrative Area (LAA) holding an election.
American Indian tribal members with tribally owned land also qualify as agricultural landowners and can vote by contacting their FSA office. Voters who have not received ballots can request one from their county office.
Urban county committees have also been established in 27 cities to better represent urban producers in USDA program decisions. Ten of these urban committees are holding their first elections this year.
