Wisconsin's attorney general is taking legal action in an attempt to remove the outgoing chairman of the Wisconsin Natural Resources Board. Josh Kaul filed a lawsuit in Dane County Circuit Court on Tuesday to force Dr. Fred Prehn to step down from the panel now that his term on the board has expired.
Prehn was appointed to the board in 2015 by then-Governor Scott Walker. His term ended on May 1, but says he will not relinquish his duties because Republican lawmakers have yet to hold a hearing on his replacement.
"Dr. Prehn's term is over. His attempt to remain on the Natural Resources board indefinitely, in defiance of the will of the voters, is fundamentally undemocratic," Kaul said in a statement.
In April, Gov. Tony Evers appointed Sandra Dee Naas and Sharon Adams to fill vacancies created by the expiring terms of Prehn and Julie Anderson. Anderson has already stepped down.
