Professional Dairy Producers (PDP) will host a series of educational episodes on The Dairy Signal this week, focusing on key challenges facing the dairy industry. Topics will include calf welfare, data management, and water quality.
On Tuesday, July 16, Dr. Jennifer Van Os, assistant professor and extension specialist in animal welfare at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, will discuss strategies to enrich the lives of calves and youngstock. The episode will explore cost-effective solutions that benefit animal welfare and overall farm operations.
Data management will be the focus of Wednesday’s episode. Todd Janzen, attorney and co-founder of Janzen Agricultural Law LLC, will provide insights into farmers’ rights regarding data ownership and control. The session will address the legal implications of data streaming from dairy farms.
On Thursday with a discussion on on-farm water quality research. Steven Hall, assistant professor and extension specialist, and Lindsey Hartfiel, research program manager, both from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, will share findings from the Wisconsin Discovery Farms program and outline future research initiatives.
All episodes offer continuing education units through Dairy AdvanCE and can be accessed live or on-demand. The Dairy Signal airs live from 12:00-1:00 PM CT each Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
