Central Wisconsin Crop Research Meeting on March 18

Central Wisconsin Crop Research Meeting on March 18

By Blake Jackson

The University of Wisconsin-Madison Division of Extension will host the annual Central Wisconsin Processing Crops Meeting on March 18 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Hancock Agricultural Research Station in Hancock, Wisconsin.

The event provides an opportunity for farmers, agronomists, and agricultural professionals to learn about the latest research and best management practices for processing crops. Registration for the meeting is $25 and includes lunch.

The meeting will feature presentations from several Extension specialists and researchers who will share updates on crop management, plant health, and soil practices relevant to Central Wisconsin’s farming systems.

Participants will gain valuable insights into nitrogen management strategies for sweet corn and snap beans, as well as methods for managing sweet corn tar spot, a disease that can significantly affect crop productivity.

Additional sessions will focus on conservation practices designed to protect water quality and improve soil health in regional cropping systems. Attendees will also learn about opportunities to collaborate with the potato industry, which plays a major role in the area’s agricultural economy.

The agenda begins with check-in at 8:45 a.m., followed by presentations covering topics such as carrot cultivar susceptibility to Aster Yellows phytoplasma, updates on sweet corn tar spot management, and improving conservation pathways across cropping systems.

Other sessions will address nitrogen management strategies, determining soil field capacity, updates on the Endangered Species Act, and interseeding practices in sweet corn grown on sandy soils.

The event will conclude with lunch and networking from 11:35 a.m. to noon.
