The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) is accepting public comments until April 28, 2025, on a proposed special pesticide registration for Stinger and Stinger HL herbicide.
Manufactured by Corteva AgriSciences, these herbicides contain the active ingredient clopyralid and are intended for broadleaf weed control in strawberry fields, targeting weeds like dandelion, Canada thistle, bull thistle, and perennial clovers.
This special registration is proposed as the manufacturer undergoes a product formulation change. Strawberry growers would be limited to a single application of either Stinger or Stinger HL per growing season, as no other pre-harvest herbicides are currently registered for these specific weeds in strawberries.
This marks the fifth such special registration for these herbicides on strawberries, with the current proposal extending through December 31, 2029.
Previous registrations reported no adverse effects. A preliminary environmental assessment suggests that a full environmental review is not required.
Interested parties can submit comments by 4:30 p.m. on April 28, 2025, via mail to Alyssa Foss, DATCP, PO Box 8911, Madison, WI, 53708-8911, or email to alyssa.foss@wisconsin.gov. The assessment is also available for review at the DATCP address during business hours.
This special registration process allows states to address local pest issues with solutions not on the federal label when federally registered products are inadequate.
