Farm finance course - improve decisions for farmer

By Blake Jackson

The Farm Pulse -Financial Management and Analysis is an online, self-paced course designed for both conventional and organic farmers seeking to enhance their financial management skills.

This course is ideal for farmers or farm managers who wish to develop farm financial statements and use them to make informed decisions about their farm’s finances and operations.

It is also beneficial for anyone involved in agriculture who wants to better understand farm financials and evaluate business performance.

Participants will learn essential skills, including how to identify the necessary financial records for their farm, compare financial strengths and weaknesses, and organize financial data into clear statements.

The course covers the structure and interpretation of key financial documents, such as balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements, and owner equity statements.

With these skills, farmers will be able to assess their farm’s financial position and performance, providing insight into potential improvements or adjustments.

Additionally, the course will guide participants in how to effectively communicate their financial plan to lenders, ensuring that they can make well-informed decisions about securing loans or financing for their operations. This course fulfills the education requirements for USDA Farm Service Agency loan borrowers in Wisconsin.

The course is available virtually and costs $299, which includes access to materials for one year. Registration is required. For more information, contact Trisha Wagner at trisha.wagner@wisc.edum or call 715-896-1609.
