Farmers across the Badger State were grateful to get some much needed rain early last week, but still had over five days suitable for fieldwork prior to the weekend. The latest crop report from the Wisconsin Ag Statistics Service said growers continued to harvest their second cutting of hay while conditions allowed.
Topsoil moisture condition levels were rated four percent very short, 22 percent short, 73 percent adequate and one percent surplus.
As of Sunday, the corn condition was 76 percent in good to excellent condition statewide, unchanged from last week. Nearly a third of the soybeans were at the blooming state or beyond; and was 78 percent good to excellent.
The oats were 79 percent headed, which is nearly two weeks behind last year and three days slower than the five-year average. About 34 percent of the oats were coloring and the crop was rated at 84 percent good to excellent. The winter wheat was 79 percent coloring and rated 85 percent good to excellent statewide.
The second cutting of alfalfa was reported at 66 percent complete, about five days ahead of normal.
